This day saw many women leaders from all corners of Kenya, gather at Wikondiek, Kanyaluo Luo location in Karachuonyo in Honor of Dr Phoebe Muga Asiyo

The crowd Mama, as is popularly known, pulled into her rural homestead included; the Chairman of the Luo Council of Elders - Ker Riaga Ogalo, wives of Members of Parliament, women leaders from various socio-economic sectors, and Mrs Ida Odinga-the Prime Minister's wife who was also the lead host in this first event that saw Dr Phoebe Asiyo being honoured as the First Luo Woman Elder.

Women, men and children came together in recognition of Dr Asiyo's work in advocating for women's rights through Affirmative Action, girl child education, peace talks in conflict stricken African and Asian nations, as well as mentoring other up-coming women leaders in Kenya and the world.

Five symbolic Items were given to mama, these were a crown, an apron, a whisk, a sisal skirt and a trophy.  The crowning of a Luo Elder is given as a sign of respect to leaders.
